Lucy Dacus Unveils New Song ‘Planting Tomatoes’

The track is the singer-songwriter’s first new music of 2026
Lucy Dacus is just trying to live in the moment. The singer-songwriter has released her first new music in 2026 with new single “Planting Tomatoes,” just a couple of days after Earth Day.
On the soft rock track, Dacus muses about slowing down to appreciate life as you’re living it. “You’ve gotta live the life you’re fighting for/ ou’ve gotta live a life you would die for,” she sings over fuzzy drums. Along with the song, the musician also shared a lyric video she shot herself in Tokyo, Japan. The visual, which was edited by Mikayla LoBasso, was filmed inside of a stationery store, featuring the song’s lyrics written with different pens on paper scattered throughout the store.
“Planting Tomatoes” was physically released on April 18 as a Record Store Day exclusive 7-inch vinyl, but is now available on streaming services. In February, Dacus delivered the live debut of the track during her performance at Auckland Laneway Festival.
This summer, Dacus is set to head on tour to continue supporting her 2025 LP Forever Is a Feeling. The tour also includes two special symphony shows, one with the Chicago Philharmonic at Millennium Park, and another with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl. Cat Power will also perform at the Hollywood Bowl show, singing tracks off her pivotal 2006 album The Greatest, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
