Prince Harry’s Wedding Anniversary Gift to Meghan Markle Has a Special Meaning

Eight years ago, the world was invited to celebrate and watch as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle said “I do.”
And this year, the now-Duchess of Sussex shared intimate photos of her and her husband’s wedding day ceremony and reception. But, she also shared the 8-year wedding anniversary present that Harry surprised her with and the special meaning behind it.
On her May 19 Instagram story, Meghan first shared video of her two kids, Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 4, singing, “Happy anniversary to mama and papa.”
As Harry holds the cake and Meghan films, they share a kiss and she says, “I love you.”
A little one can be heard telling them to blow the candles.

In the next Instagram video, the former “Suits” star shows off the bronze penguins that Harry gifted her. Traditionally, bronze or pottery is given after eight years of marriage, making the Duke of Sussex’s surprise the perfect combination of sentimental and traditional.
Gasping as Harry giggles in the back, she says “Whaaat, oh my God!”
She then shares the story behind the penguins, telling her children, “When mama and papa, when we got engaged we had a party with all of our friends and we said everyone wear animal onesies and we were penguins … because they’re together for life.”

Next to the bronze penguins was a photo of her and Harry in their onesies.
As Meghan showed off her personal and sweet wedding gift, there appears to be a poster made by the kids leaning up against the table.
The former actor continued to share snapshots from their celebrations at home, which also included enjoying a lemon elderflower cake.

American pastry chef Claire Ptak was in charge of baking the couple’s wedding cake, which, according to Kensington Palace at the time, was a lemon sponge cake drizzled with elderflower syrup that included Amalfi lemon curd and Swiss meringue buttercream.
Before digging into the delightful treat, the couple shared a kiss for the camera.

In another video, Meghan also shared a close up of her bronze penguins and a card that was addressed to “The one and only.”
She also made sure that everyone got a nice look at her and Harry all dressed up at their engagement party.

The happy couple announced their engagement on Nov. 27, 2017, after dating for over a year.
They would go on to get married at St. George’s Chapel inside Windsor Castle in 2018 and welcome son Archie on May 6, 2019. The couple would go on to officially step back as senior members of the British royal family in 2020 and settle in Montecito, California, where they welcomed daughter Lilibet in June 2021.
