‘Best Medicine’ Renewed for Season 2 at Fox


Fox has renewed “Best Medicine” for Season 2.

The show is an American remake of the hit British series “Doc Martin,” with Josh Charles playing the lead role in the Fox version. It is currently airing its first season, which debuted on in January. The season finale is slated to air March 10 on Fox and stream the next day on Hulu.

Along with Charles, the cast includes Abigail Spencer, Josh Segarra, Annie Potts and Cree.

“’Best Medicine’ quickly became a breakout for us this season, blending sharp humor with real heart,” said Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network. “Liz Tuccillo brings a distinctive creative voice to the series, and Josh Charles leads an exceptional cast that audiences have embraced. We, along with Propogate, are excited to build on that momentum in Season Two.”

Liz Tuccillo serves as executive producer and showrunner on “Best Medicine.” Ben Silverman, Rodney Ferrell, Howard T. Owens, Mark Crowdy, and Philippa Braithwaite executive produce. The series is produced by Fox Entertainment Studios. The show is based on the All3Media International format “Doc Martin,” originally produced in the U.K. by Buffalo Pictures in association with Homerun Film Productions. It was brought to the U.S. by Propagate Content.

The official logline for the show states, “Dr. Martin Best (Charles), a brilliant surgeon who abruptly leaves his illustrious career in Boston to become the general practitioner in a quaint East Coast fishing village where he spent summers as a child with his Aunt Sarah (Potts). There, he encounters an eclectic group of townspeople, including schoolteacher Louisa Gavin (Spencer), Sheriff Mark Mylow (Segarra) and his assistant Elaine Denton (Cree).”

Per Fox, the series premiere of “Best Medicine” has delivered 12.6 million total multiplatform viewers. The series debuted following Fox’s Sunday NFL coverage before moving to its regular Tuesday timeslot on Jan. 13.
