Bille Joe Armstrong and Son Cover David Bowie’s ‘Heroes’

The father-son duo covered the classic for a promo video of Survivor’s 50th season
Green Day‘s lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong, is looking to be a hero, just for one day — and taking son Jakob along for the ride. The father-son duo have covered David Bowie‘s “Heroes” to commemorate Survivor‘s 50th season. It’s quite a confounding set of circumstances, but we’ll take it.
Billie Joe takes charge of the track’s vocals while his son Jakob performs alongside him. Their take is featured in the latest promo video for Survivor season 50, which kicks off in February. You can watch it below, or stream the faithful rendition across platforms.
“Heroes” is having yet another moment in pop culture. In December, the 1977 classic was featured in the Stranger Things season finale. The song saw a nearly 500 percent increase on streaming services following the episode, as Rolling Stone reported.
The cover marks the first time Billie Joe and Jakob recorded vocals together, a feat the younger Armstrong called “cool.” In an Instagram post about the track, Jakob also wrote, “It’s a tough song to do justice – I’m grateful for the opportunity to try.” He also revealed that he had produced and engineered the recording. For the past several years, Jakob has followed in his father’s footsteps, much like his older brother Joey, and dove into a career in music. Previously, he fronted punk outfit Danger!. Currently, he leads the trio Ultra Q and has a solo project called Jet Engine Kiss.
