Brazil’s Globoplay, Fremantle Strike a Deal on ‘Sullivan’s Crossing’

Globoplay, the top Brazilian streaming service and one of Latin America’s few domestic SVOD players to compete with the world’s global streamers in a big national market, has struck a deal with Fremantle to acquire “Sullivan’s Crossing.”

With this deal, the acquisition marks the first time Brazilians will be able to see the CTV Original series.

Based on the book of New York Times best selling novelist Robyn Carr, whose work also inspired Netflix’s long running hit “Virgin River,” and adapted for TV by showrunner Roma Roth, “Sullivan’s Crossing” stars Morgan Kohan (“When Hope Calls”), Chad Michael Murray (“One Tree Hill) and Scott Patterson (“Gilmore Girls”). Globoplay, the streaming service of Brazilian TV giant Globo, will launch Season 1 of “Sullivan’s Crossing” in March 2026.

As Variety reported when announcing the series, “Sullivan’s Crossing” turns on neurosurgeon Maggie Sullivan as her life in Boston collapses around her, placing a fork in the road where her personal and professional paths once moved effortlessly forward.

Forced to head in the opposite direction, she finds her way back to the rural town she once called home, where her estranged father runs the local outpost. “The 10-episode romantic drama unspools as Maggie confronts past traumas to reconnect to the parts of herself she’d long forgotten. “Tackling relatable themes of community, familial bonds, love and self-fulfilment, the show allows its characters the grace to grow, heal and live a bit in the process,” Variety said.

“Sullivan’s Crossing” also forms part of Fremantle’s drive into English-language production this decade both in the U.K., –where it triumphed in 2022 with BBC One’s “The Responder,” starring Martin Freeman – and beyond, in Australia and now Canada.

“Sullivan’s Crossing” also showed yet another key global TV player, here Fremantle, moving four years ago into ever bigger mainstream swings as distributors and VOD platforms alike look to secure big audiences once broadly the domain of broadcast networks.

That bet played off. Distributed internationally by Fremantle, “Sullivan’s Crossing” has been licensed to over 180 territories. Season 4 is set to premiere in Canada on CTV and Crave this Spring.

“‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ is a beautifully crafted, character-driven series with proven global success, and we’re thrilled to be bringing it to Brazilian audiences with Globo. Its themes of family, love and second chances resonate deeply, and we’re confident the series will strike a chord with Globo’s viewers,” said Sheila Aguirre, Fremantle EVP co-production & distribution, Latin America & Hispanic USA.

“Bringing ‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ to Globoplay reinforces our commitment to offering an increasingly diverse catalog, embracing different storytelling styles and expanding the possibilities of connection with our audience. The series arrives to strengthen our portfolio of emotional dramas and stories that truly resonate with viewers,” added Tatiana Costa, Globo director of entertainment and news channels & content.

Roth, also creator and executive producer on the series, said she was “so excited to be sharing ‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ with Brazil, a country known for its love of romance and telenovelas. I can’t wait to see what audiences think!”

From executive producers Roth and Christopher E. Perry, the team behind “Virgin River,” “Sullivan’s Crossing” is executive produced by Reel World Management in association with Bell Media’s CTV, The CW and Fremantle. Marc Tetreault, Mark Gingras and Jason Levangie serve as producers. For Fremantle, Michela Di Mondo and Hilary Martin are also executive producers.
