The City of Brotherly Love enjoys first round success in NBA and NHL playoffs, but it forces the E Street Band to reroute their Land of Hope and Dreams Tour
The Philadelphia 76ers and Flyers both advanced to the second round of their respective playoffs Saturday, but those victories have come at a price: Bruce Springsteen’s Philly show has been postponed to May 30.
Springsteen and the E Street Band were set to play Xfinity Mobile Arena on May 8; however, the venue is now needed to host the Sixers’ Game 3 matchup against the New York Knicks. The Flyers’ Stanley Cup playoff schedule — and Springsteen’s own itinerary — further complicated rescheduling the concert, which will now take place 22 days later.
“Due to the NBA and NHL playoff schedule, the Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band concert at Xfinity Mobile Arena has been rescheduled for May 30,” Springsteen’s official site announced Sunday. “All tickets for the previous date will remain valid for the new date.”
The Land of Hope and Dreams Tour’s Philadelphia show was originally sandwiched between a bunch of New York dates — May 5 at Elmont’s UBS Arena, a two-night stand at Madison Square Garden, and May 14 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. (Thankfully, Springsteen managed to sidestep the Knicks’ home playoff games: A potential Game 5 at MSG will take place May 12, a day after Springsteen’s May 11 gig at the venue, and a Game 7 at the Garden on May 17 will also narrowly miss the band’s May 16 show.)
Now, the Philly show will serve as the final gig of the trek, taking place after the previous closing show on May 27 at Washington’s Nationals Park.
