Danielle Fishel’s new podcast ‘Teen Beat’ just got its premiere with a big star guest: Mark Hoppus, the bassist, and co-founder of Blink-182. The ‘Boy Meets World’ star revealed that Hoppus not only attended the recording of the show but also wrote and performed the show’s opening song, which is already booted to be a “true bop” by many fans.

This news brought a huge wave of nostalgia-based love on platforms like Twitter since the mentioned scenario was a nice mix of two totally different aspects of 90s and 2000s pop culture. The crossover was interpreted by the majority of the audience as a lovely, long-awaited joint venture. “My fav worlds have collided!” one overjoyed user commented, which was a perfect fit. Another person labeled the theme as the “best!!!”, and a third just shared, “This is the best! Mark and Danielle are the best!… My millennial heart can’t take it.”

The podcast’s theme, which mostly consists of teenage experiences and defining memories, was a perfect match for the generation that watched ‘Boy Meets World’ and sang along with Blink-182’s hits. One of the first episode’s discussions is already revealed in the promotional video, and it is none other than the typical adolescent topics such as the first awkward kisses and being scolded. Hoppus narrates a memorable incident of his getting caught smoking, and it is reminiscent of a scene from a juvenile drama.

Inviting Hoppus as the first guest was both a great strategy and very personal for Fishel. In the advertisement, she claims they have now “the coolest theme song in all of podcasting,” which is quite a bold statement but the listeners seem to agree. The making of the song turned to be an attraction for the spotlight, and a lot of comments mentioned how catchy the song is. “Theme song is a true bop,” was one fan’s opinion very succinctly put. Another user was pretty impressed and requested, “I need to see lyrics on here,” meaning he wanted to dissect every lyric of the pop-punk song.

Not only was the podcast at issue, but also the episode was harping on the future of the podcast. A sophisticated listener suggested letting the fans be on the show. “Danielle, have you thought about… getting a selected group of fans from anywhere around the world…to share with you the impact your show and podcast has on our lives?” said the listener. This idea was widely supported, one comment explaining that they had expected ‘Teen Beat’ to be a fan-centered show. “Oh man that would have been soooo much cooler, in my opinion!” was the response.

The launch also paved the way for some light-hearted jokes about Fishel’s changing careers. One fan asked, “how did danielle fishell go from being everyone’s 90s crush to being everyone’s podcast crush??? 😍😍😍” A reply provided a very simple and apt answer: “we all grew up.” Another user tried to make a joke about Fishel’s being super active while her ex-co-stars Rider Strong and Will Friedle were not, and went: “The three of you are just making podcast after podcast. Like damn 😝”

Longtime followers of Hoppus also showed their appreciation. One user said he heard Hoppus’ podcast ‘Hi My Name is Mark’ and that was back in the early 2000s when Blink-182 was taking their first break. “Mark’s one of my heroes and so great to hear him happy and healthy again and writing kick ass theme songs!” was their comment, and the sentiment thus enhanced the gentle warmth around professional success.

With its beloved presenter, a legendary first guest, and an instantly famous theme song, ‘Teen Beat’ has launched with the kind of energy that most podcasts could only dream of. It is an unspoiled youthful memory, done by a person who, along with that very ones, has been defining them for the generation, this time, wrapped in a punk rock atmosphere. The first episode has imaginatively linked the cultural memory of the masses, thus confirming that the teenage stories—be it a sitcom star or rock icon telling—are universally relatable. The only thing that is left a mystery is who will be the next guest of Danielle Fishel in the hot seat. Her recent Dancing with the Stars appearance showed her versatility, and she also received emotional support from Lance Bass during that time. Furthermore, she honored Mr. Feeny with a touching performance, and is preparing a fiery Argentine tango for an upcoming event.
