Dick Van Dyke Turns 100 Years Old: ‘It’s Not Enough’

Mary Poppins star says in new interview on centennial birthday, “You want to live more, and I plan to.”
Dick Van Dyke celebrated his 100th birthday on Saturday, with the Tony- and Emmy-winning actor saying in a new interview that a century of life “is not enough.”
Speaking to ABC News, the Mary Poppins star, who last month published his book 100 Rules for Living to 100: An Optimist’s Guide to a Happy Life, offered up some advice about attaining longevity.
“We go to the gym three days a week, [my wife’s] a health nut, and we work out,” Van Dyke said. “That’s good advice for anybody.” Van Dyke added that his gym routine has helped spare him from the ailments many elderly encounter. “I’m so lucky. I don’t have any ache or pain,” he said.
Van Dyke — who happens to share a birthday with Taylor Swift, turning 36 today — continues to remain active, appearing in the director’s cut of Coldplay’s “All My Love” video in Dec. 2024 and (briefly) setting the record for the oldest-ever Daytime Emmy winner; Van Dyke’s record, at the age of 98, was broken last month by 99-year-old Sir David Attenborough.
On Van Dyke’s social media accounts, numerous centennial celebrations for the actor have been announced, including a two-night-only Fathom Events retrospective as well as a fundraiser for The Midnight Mission, an organization supporting homeless people that Van Dyke has championed for decades
“The funniest thing is, it’s not enough. One hundred years is not enough,” Van Dyke added on ABC News. “You want to live more, and I plan to.”
