As Stranger Things comes to an end with its fifth and final season, how long is each episode?
Created by Matt and Ross Duffer, Stranger Things focuses on a fictional town where a series of supernatural events take place and cause mystery and mayhem. The hit Netflix series has catapulted its cast members — Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton and Joe Keery — to stardom since it premiered in 2016.
While Stranger Things has become a pop-culture phenomenon, it is also known for long gaps between filming and lengthy episode runtimes. Season 5, which is the show’s last season, will conclude nearly a decade after Stranger Things originally premiered.
“I think we’re aiming for eight episodes again. We don’t want it to be 13 hours. We’re aiming for more like 10 hours or something,” Matt told Collider in July 2022. “I think it’s going to be longer than season 1 because we just have so much to wrap up, but I don’t think it’s going to be as long as Season 4.”

Set over a year after the events of season 4, the final season premiered with an ongoing search for Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower). The secret plans included “crawls” into the Upside Down from Hawkins, Indiana, while trying to evade the U.S. military, which placed the small town under quarantine.
Runtime: 68 minutes
The second episode focused on the disappearance of Holly Wheeler (Nell Fisher) after a demogorgon kidnapped her for Vecna.
Runtime: 57 minutes
Will’s connection to Vecna allowed more insight into the villain’s plans. The friend group ultimately planned a trap to locate their friends while Hopper (David Harbour) and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) searched for information in the Upside Down and Holly learned more about her new home.
Runtime: 69 minutes
The plan to destroy Vecna is set in motion — to disastrous results. Hawkins kids are clued into the true identity of their imaginary friend while Eleven and Hopper continue to make moves in the Upside Down. Holly, meanwhile, got help from Max (Sadie Sink).
Runtime: 86 minutes
Based on the title, part 2 is expected to kick off by focusing on Steve (Joe Keery).

Max and Holly will seemingly return to the real world after being kept from Hawkins by Vecna.
Runtime: 75 minutes
The second run of episodes will conclude with The Bridge.
