Jake Reiner Seen for 1st Time After Rob and Michele Reiner’s Murders

Jake Reiner, the eldest child of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, was spotted out and about for the first time since his parents’ deaths.

Jake, 34, was pictured shopping in Malibu, California, on Saturday, December 27, with partner Maria Gilfillan, per photos published by TMZ on Sunday, December 28.

According to the outlet, Jake, who is an actor like his father, and his girlfriend visited several stores and remained close to one another while taking a stroll.

Jake kept things low-key by wearing a dark blue shirt, blue jeans, sunglasses and a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball cap.

The sighting comes just two weeks after Jake’s parents were found dead inside their home in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles on December 14. Rob was 78 and Michele was 70.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” the couple’s family said in a statement to Variety at the time. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

As well as Jake, Rob and Michele shared daughter Romy, 28, and son Nick, 32, who was arrested on suspicion of murder following the deaths of his parents. (Rob also shared daughter Tracy, 61, with first wife Penny Marshall.)

On December 16, Nick was formally charged with two counts of first-degree murder, Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced. If convicted, he faces life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.

Nick was seen in court for the first time the following day, December 17, wearing a suicide prevention vest. He did not enter a plea at the time and his arraignment will take place on January 7, 2026.

Nick’s attorney, Alan Jackson, told reporters outside the courthouse, “This is a devastating tragedy that has befallen the Reiner family. We all recognized that our hearts go out to the entire Reiner family. There are very, very complex and serious issues that are associated with this case. Those need to be thoroughly, but very carefully, dealt with and examined and looked at and analyzed.”

“We asked that [muffled] process you allow the system to move forward in the way that it was designed to move forward, not with a rushed judgment, not with jumping to conclusions, but with restraint and with dignity, and with the respect that this system and this process deserves and that the family deserves,” Jackson, who previously represented Karen Read, said. “So with that, we are set for January 7 for an arraignment that’s the next court date and that’s all I have to say at this point. There may be more at some other point, but today we are going to rest on where we stand procedurally, which is, this is a continuance of arraignment. Nothing happened today substantively. We’ll be back for an arrangement in the same department on 7 January. We’ll see you then.”

In a statement issued the same day, Jake and Romy broke their silence on their parents’ deaths.

“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience,” the pair said in a statement. “They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

“We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life,” the statement continued. “We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”
