Jason Momoa Gets Real About Filming Action Scenes at 46: ‘It Hurts’

Jason Momoa is starting to feel his age.

When it came to making his new movie, “The Wrecking Crew,” co-starring Dave Bautista, Momoa admits filming action scenes feels a little different at age 46.

“He’s 50, and I’m almost there, and it hurts,” Momoa told Willie Geist on the Jan. 25 edition of Sunday Sitdown.

Momoa specifically recalled a scene where he and Bautista fight in the rain.

“He was on my chest with his knee, like, just mounted up on me. And he’s just raining down bombs on you,” he said. “And I’m just, like, ‘Oh my God.'”

“I close my eyes. I’m, like, ‘Dave, if you f—— hit me, I’m done. Like, this is it,'” Momoa joked.

In the film, Momoa plays a loose-cannon cop who is forced to team up with his estranged brother, played by Bautista, to investigate their father’s mysterious death in Hawaii.

The movie, which will hit Prime Video on Jan. 28, was actually manifested by Bautista five years ago.

In 2021, he tweeted, “Just going to throw this out into the atmosphere and see what happens. Here we go … me and Momoa in a ‘Lethal Weapon’-type buddy cop movie directed by David Leitch. Ok! There it is. Now we wait.”

Though “Blue Beetle” director Ángel Manuel Soto picked up the film instead, Bautista’s prediction largely came true.

Momoa also recalled how he got the former pro wrestler to appear in the film.

“I get a call from my agents going, ‘What the hell you guys doing over there?'” Momoa laughed, adding that he and Bautista “got along really well.”

“He’s got no ego. He’s just like a teddy bear, super quiet, keeps to himself. And I’m obviously loud, obnoxious. We’re kind of opposite but, like, really blend really well,” he said. “So, I was, like, ‘Bro, I have this idea.'”

Momoa, who was born in the Aloha State in 1979, said he’s elated to “show another side of Hawaii” with “The Wrecking Crew.”

“We played estranged brothers, and when I was pitching it to him, he loved it,” Momoa said.

“The Wrecking Crew” is the latest project in Momoa’s repertoire. The “Road to Paloma” star is also known for starring in “Game of Thrones,” “Aquaman” and “A Minecraft Movie.”
