John Mellencamp wants to know what the heck is going on in Al Roker’s neck of the woods when it comes to predicting the weather.
The legendary singer and songwriter started his interview on TODAY on Jan. 16 by roasting the iconic weatherman out of the blue before Mellencamp got into talking about his upcoming tour.
“I have a question for Al,” Mellencamp said. “Why is it…
“Yes…” Al said, following along.
“…that with all the new weather stuff you people have,” Mellencamp continued.
“Uh huh,” Al said, wondering where this was going.
“…are you doing as bad a job as they did in 1955?” Mellencamp said to complete the zinger.
“That’s a good question,” Al said in between uproarious laughter from Craig Melvin.
“You have just spoken for America!” Craig said to Mellencamp.
Mellencamp’s dig at Al also had Dylan Dreyer inadvertently catching a stray, considering she is a meteorologist for TODAY in addition to co-hosting of the show’s third hour.
“It’s like how on earth, you have guys have all this information,” Mellencamp continued.
“Remind him we’re predicting the future,” Dylan whispered to Al.
Mellencamp, a famous Indiana native, then remembered a weatherman of his youth who went on to much bigger things.
“David Letterman used to be the weatherman in Indiana, and he was much righter than you guys,” Mellencamp quipped.
Al wasn’t about to just take all that heat with no response.
“And guess what?” he said. “I’m still doing it, and I’m making money, so I must be doing something right.”
“Yeah, but you’re handsome,” Mellencamp said before slapping five with Al.
“You brought it around!” Al said.
Meanwhile, Craig was in his glory as he tried to contain his laughter.
“Oh my God,” Craig said, trying to catch his breath.
“You just made Craig Melvin’s day,” Al said.
“It did,” Craig said. “Maybe my year. That is a clip that will live in infamy, John Mellencamp. It will be right after the ‘Jack and Diane’ video.”
Once the laughter stopped, they got to chatting about Mellencamp’s upcoming tour this summer, his friendship with legendary actor Sean Penn and an update on his daughter, Teddi Mellencamp, who is in the midst of ongoing treatment for cancer.
