Kim Kardashian Reveals 12-Year-Old Daughter North Is Homeschooled

Kim Kardashian is a hands-on parent to her eldest daughter, 12-year-old North.

“She really is who she is and always has been, and so I nurture her,” Kim, 45, explained on the Wednesday, January 21, episode of her sister Khloé Kardashian’s “Khloé in Wonderland” podcast. “She is homeschooled, and a lot of it is me helping her do a lot of the teachings and … we do a lot of realistic courses [of] things that she’s really into.”

Kim gave birth to North in 2013, later welcoming her three younger children with now-ex Kanye West. Kim and West, 48, divorced in 2022.

A Homeschool Teacher

While Kim makes sure North learns the basics in school, the Skims mogul also personalizes her daughter’s lesson plans to best suit her skillset and interests.

“She’s really into math. We’ll give budgets and we’ll go around and we’ll get stuff and we’ll add it all up and subtract it all,” Kim said. “She has a brand-building class. It’s, like, an actual course and a curriculum. [It’s] fully interactive learning, and she had an idea of making hats and making jewelry and all the things she wanted to make, so we made it a course.”

According to Kim, North also has to learn about web design and budgeting for her design class.

“She has to go to the stores and get materials and sewing, and we do full fashion courses,” Kim added. “She goes, in the summers, to FIT in New York and fashion camp. She loves these more interactive experiences, and so I nurture her. It’s a full-time job, even for me and her teacher.”

North also takes music classes, where she’ll spend time in a recording studio to produce, write and record original songs.

“It’s been so fun to see her blossom,” Kim gushed. “I’ll add her writing out all her lyrics as part of her spelling tests. We do all of the things at home that she really enjoys and are challenging, and I think [people] would be proud to see how smart she really is and how creative she really is.”

Who Teaches North in Her Homeschool Classes?

While Kim acknowledged that she hired an educational professional to teach North, she added that she’s hands-on in the classroom, too.

“I’m with her and the kids 24/7, and it’s like I’ve now added teacher to my role ‘cause she wants me involved in all the things,” Kim explained. “I took the last six months off to be able to really do that and do her courses and get the curriculum from her teachers and be there in the room with her, and it’s been a lot.”

In addition to parenting duties, Kim also stays busy running her Skims company, studying to pass the bar and become an attorney and starring on Hulu’s All’s Fair and The Kardashians.

While Kim claimed in 2025 that she hadn’t heard from West in months, their coparenting arrangement turned a corner once North started pursuing music classes.

“The music side and the producing isn’t my thing, and that’s her bonding thing with her dad,” Kim said on Wednesday. “Even just coming up with stuff, we have to communicate about how North moves through that world and all these opportunities that come her way and having to filter that and respecting his opinion on the things that go on with his kids is really important.”

She continued, “I think it’s important for the kids. You just, kind of, have to put all the other stuff to the side.”

Accepting North’s Style Choices

North has frequently tried out new fashion looks — from colorful hair extensions, fake facial piercings and more.

“I’m not a judgmental person like that, so I try not to pay attention to it,” Kim said. “No one unless they’re in my shoes of what I’m dealing with and how we have to manage certain things from the outside world or even close in our life. … Northie actually has a lot of rules, [but] the one area is I do let her express herself and I let her do that. I love her for that.”

Kim further acknowledged that North has worn a “fake septum ring” and colorful braids since she was in first grade.

“She’s always loved colored braids since she was little,” Kim stressed. “She really is who she is, and always has been.”

“She knew what she wanted since the moment she was born,” Kim recalled. “She was born to the song ‘Bohemian Rhapsody.’ … Kanye was DJing, so he put on ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ for the moment she came out. Isn’t that so her?”

Now, whenever Kim listens to the Queen hit, she gets especially emotional.
