Matthew Lillard Considers A Podcast And Fans Are Begging Him To Hit Record

Matthew Lillard is one of the most appreciated actors whose performance in ‘Scream’ and ‘Scooby-Doo’ made him popular. He hinted that he might move to podcasting because he loves long conversations; on the other hand, he does not want to join a crowded field of voices, which is quite typical of him. The actor’s ideas, presented almost in an accidental way, have caused a strong reaction from his faithful fans, who are very much supporting him, thus urging him to try it. In a video interview, he presented his doubts and almost lost in the conversation when he brought up the reasons for his hesitance to make this move.

In the footage, Lillard reveals his attraction towards the talk and the people, which are the main qualities that the podcasting has to offer. One of the downsides of this situation he faces is ‘the bringing people in’, which he confesses is ‘hard work.’ He humorously admits to the expectant audience that he is a ‘middle-aged white guy’ and uses the words ‘I don’t think we need another middle-aged white guy talking about things’ as if to justify his long delay. However, while he might not be the voice for the rare ones, he is out to uncover them and claims wanting to interact with a ‘father-grade boy of homeboy industry,’ which is quite a rare phrase that shows both his appeal to the less eventful ones and his humorous style that is able to pass the human stories over the celebrities’ gossip. He even lists several successful contemporaries like Dax Shepard and Marc Maron, whom he considers very skilled, but he is not sure if he belongs to the same good and difficult lane.

Lillard’s moment of self-evaluation has, nonetheless, been met with a flood of backing that outright refutes his humble self-assessment. The comment section turned into a manifesto of support where the fans were almost constructing a case regarding their point that a Matthew Lillard podcast would not be just another show but a big event.

The lamentable nature of the term ‘middle-aged white guy’ is a recurring motif in the comments. One supporter rather directly stated: ‘You are not just a middle-aged white guy. You are Matthew Lillard.’ This sentiment was echoed in many replies that were almost word-for-word exactly the same such as ‘NOT a middle aged white guy but THEE Matthew Lillard!’ and ‘He’s not like every other middle-aged white guy.’ Thus, they are arguing that it is the perceived authenticity, kindness, and genuine engagement with people that make him outstanding. This trait of his character has been gradually appropriated by his legend among fans, which is why one commenter even recounted an incident to illustrate it. They recalled that at a convention with a massive line, Lillard’s flight was delayed. Rather than being impatient, he went up the whole line, one by one, and greeted each person and then made it a point to look after the families with small children so that they would not miss out on the interaction. The fan also added that ‘He gives the BEST HUGS TOO!!!’ This tale was not just narrated as a nice occurrence; it was presented as an essential point demonstrating the outstanding empathy that he would apply in the matter.

The theme of the podcast was also a catalyst for inventive thinking. While Lillard was contemplating who to ask for an interview, one of the fans put forth a very thought-provoking suggestion: ‘What if Matthew did a podcast speaking to local artists local people and seeing their perspectives within this world?’ Very good idea indeed, it could be said, for it would allow him to become an ‘uplifter of voices’ and work and stories in a world that is already very much dominated by AI and impersonal content. It matches perfectly with his expressed interest in non-celebrity stories which also serves to project the podcast as a community platform rather than a vanity affair.

The demand for the content is made very clear. The comments go from the simplest statements—’I would devour a podcast hosted by him,’ ‘We’re all waiting!’—to stronger promises like ‘I would tune into every episode ever.’ Among others, some were quick to claim that they have already been going back to his guest spots in other shows, thus making a case for a pre-existing audience for his style of conversation. Even his possible reluctance was turned into a positive point by one user who commented, ‘I’d fall asleep listening to him speak,’ probably meaning it as the highest compliment for a soothing, engaging presence.

The online discussion unveils a community of advocates, who see a specific, needed gap in the podcast market, rather than a fandom. They are not merely asking for more content from a favorite actor; they are arguing that his unique mix of humility, curiosity, and human connection is exactly what is needed. They are aware of his reluctance to be ‘another’ voice and come back with a strong case for his potential success. Fans are also excited about his upcoming projects, like Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. Recently, Matthew Lillard delivered a heartfelt message to UC Riverside students after a masterclass. He also famously prepares for Dungeons and Dragons nights with his massive dice collection. In promotional events, Matthew Lillard and Skeet Ulrich hosted a killer Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 screening. Additionally, Matthew Lillard returns as William Afton in the new FNAF sequel trailer.
