The New York Mets were having one of the worst offseasons in the league — that is, until the front office caught fire. Losing out on Kyle Tucker initially felt like a disastrous ending. However, the Mets quickly responded by signing top free agent Bo Bichette.

“The New York Mets, in a quick pivot after failing to sign Kyle Tucker, have agreed to a three-year, $126 million contract with infielder Bo Bichette, sources confirmed to ESPN on Friday,” ESPN’s Jorge Castillo wrote.

After signing Bichette, the Mets moved to secure their centerfielder of the future in Luis Robert Jr. These two deals happened on back-to-back days. It seemed like the offseason work was nearly done, but the Mets weren’t finished. They added Freddy Peralta via trade.

“The New York Mets’ winterlong pursuit of a front-line starting pitcher ended late Wednesday when they acquired All-Star Freddy Peralta, as well as fellow right-hander Tobias Myers, from the Milwaukee Brewers for Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams, two of their top prospects,” Castillo reported.

The Mets’ flurry of moves continued. On Saturday, it was announced that they had signed Craig Kimbrel to a minor league deal.

“The Mets are expected to sign reliever Craig Kimbrel to a minor league deal, reports Jon Heyman of the New York Post. The agreement includes an invitation to MLB Spring Training. Kimbrel will earn a $2.5MM base salary if he makes the team, notes Will Sammon of The Athletic. The veteran right-hander is represented by SportsMeter,” MLB Trade Rumors’ Charlie Wright wrote.

While Kimbrel’s signing is a quieter move, if he can pitch effectively, he could carve out a spot in the bullpen. He also brings several years of experience to the team.

This deal keeps the Mets’ momentum going this winter. Adding Kimbrel could turn out to be a surprisingly impactful move, even if it hasn’t grabbed headlines like their other acquisitions.
