Mickey Lee, ‘Big Brother’ Season 27 Star, Dead at 35

Mickey Lee, a fan-favorite contestant on the latest season of Big Brother, died Christmas Day after suffering a “series of cardiac arrests” after complications with the flu. She was 35.
Lee’s family confirmed her death in a statement shared on Instagram. “Mickey captured the hearts of audiences nationwide through her appearance on Big Brother, where her authenticity, strength and spirit left a lasting impression on fans and fellow cast members alike,” they said. “She will be remembered for the joy she brought into the lives of so many and for the genuine connections she formed both on and off screen.”
According to a GoFundMe, Lee had suffered a “series of cardiac arrests” and was in the ICU for several days after catching the flu. By Friday, Dec. 26, the fundraiser had raised more than $32,000 in donations.
“This sudden health crisis has left Mickey and her family facing enormous emotional and financial strain from mounting hospital bills to ongoing care and recovery costs,” read the fundraiser’s description, dated Dec. 22.
Lee appeared on Season 27 of Big Brother, and despite not winning, became one of that season’s main protagonists. Competing with reality TV icon Rachel Reilly and eventual winner Ashley Hollis, she quickly headed up several alliances, thanks to her leadership qualities and relationships.
“Thank you for bringing your light to the world. You will be missed,” wrote Reilly in an Instagram Story. “This doesn’t feel real. heartbroken that you’re gone. You’ll always have a place in my heart.”
Big Brother host Julie Chen also shared a sweet tribute and several photos with Lee, revealing that Lee spoke to her about some health issues she faced throughout her life.
“Two months ago I interviewed Mickey Lee on God 101. That’s when she revealed to me that she was born with a hole in her heart, and as an adult she survived an ATV accident that should have killed her, but God kept her alive,” Chen wrote. “Last night God brought her home. Rest In Peace dear Mickey. I will see you again on the other side in eternity.”
Chen added: “I pray the good Lord comforts and heals your family and loved ones as we grieve your passing.”
In their statement, Lee’s family thanked her fans for their prayers and support while she was hospitalized. They also asked for privacy while they grieve.
“The family extends their deepest gratitude to everyone who has offered prayers, love, and support during this incredibly difficult time,” they wrote. “Your kindness has been felt and is sincerely appreciated.”
They added, “Mickey’s light, legacy, and impact will never be forgotten.”
