In newly released video of a table read for Stranger Things‘ fifth season, the cast reacts with ecstatic joy to that huge twist involving the character Will Byers. Read on, only if you’ve watched the first four episodes or hate the joy of surprises.
The clip shows the cast listening to Stranger Things co-creator Matt Duffer narrating the final scene of the fourth episode, the last one available on Netflix now, in which Byers is revealed to be a sorcerer.
He describes the kids being surrounded by demogorgons, in a hopeless situation, when Will’s eyes turn white. “Will closes his eyes, and then he rolls his hands into fist,” Duffer reads. “Quick cuts as all three demos are violently killed by a powerful force. Their arms snap, their legs break, their necks twist, they crash to the ground. Dead. Will drops to his knees in the middle of the burning battlefield. Mike and Joyce look on, speechless. Will slowly unclenches his fist and peels open his eyes. His eyes are back to normal, only they now reveal a new sense of calm and strength. He is now in control. He is a sorcerer. As a trail of blood slips from his nose, we end Volume One.”
Watching the cast process the turn of events is an emotional experience.
As Duffer reads, the actors, including Sadie Sink, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, and Caleb McLaughlin, writhe around in their chairs, smiling and smirking. Actor Noah Schnapp, who plays Will, looks visibly shocked as he processes the turn of events that have made him a sorcerer.
Most pleased, though, is Millie Bobby Brown, the show’s Eleven, who has similar powers. Brown screams with glee as Duffer reads the last bit about blood dripping down Will’s nose. Since 2016, whenever her character taps into her powers, she’s suffered a bloody nose.
“You’re one of me,” Brown exclaims to Schnapp. “Now you get to deal with that bloody nose.”
The final season’s next three episodes (Volume Two) will hit Netflix on Christmas. The finale is due to hit on New Year’s Eve.
