New details have emerged regarding the death of influencer Yulia Burtseva.
The content creator, who has more than 77,000 followers on Instagram, died on Sunday, January 4, after reportedly undergoing cosmetic surgery at a private clinic in Moscow. While documenting her family life online, Burtseva reportedly lived in Italy with her husband and her daughter.
Russian news outlet MSK1 reported that Burtseva was rushed to the hospital after her condition deteriorated. She was later pronounced dead.
While citing the Moscow Investigative Committee, MSK1 reported that the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Moscow has opened a criminal case to investigate potential negligence charges.
On the morning of her surgery, Burtseva reportedly shared a video via VK — a Russian social media platform — from a coffee shop in Moscow. According to MSK1, translated text over the clip read, “Good morning Moscow😘.”
In the comments section of Burtseva’s Instagram account, users have shared messages honoring the late influencer. “So sad, I can’t believe.. so sorry for her and her family.. there are simply no words for the grief. 💔💔💔,” one user wrote in a translated comment, while another added, “My condolences to the family. A number of forensic examinations, including a medical one, are being ordered.”
RIA Novosti reported that charges were brought against the clinic employee who performed Burtseva’s surgery. The employee could face three years in prison, Kommersant reported.
In a statement to RIA Novosti, a law enforcement official claimed that the employee — who was identified as a native of Tajikistan — did not have a medical degree.
One month before she died, Burtseva shared a final Instagram post of herself and her daughter. “😂😂 Russian language is special, so it requires a special facial expression,” the caption read.
