Who Went Home on ‘The Traitors’ Tonight? Episode 8 Murders and Banishments

Warning: Spoilers for Season 4, Episode 8 of “The Traitors” below…

As the end of the game draws closer, the Season 4 Traitors are struggling to keep their identities a secret.

Last week on “The Traitors,” “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” alum and original Traitor Lisa Rinna was banished by the group partly due to “Love Island USA” Season 6 star and fellow Traitor Rob Rausch turning on her.

Then, “The Real Housewives of Potomac” star Candiace Dillard Bassett, the third Traitor, countered by casting a vote for Rausch at the Round Table. The episode ended with Rausch and Dillard Bassett meeting in the turret. The two were clearly no longer united in their mission to deceive the Faithfuls, with Rausch’s treacherous move shattering the trust between him and Dillard Bassett.

In Episode 8, which was released on Peacock Thursday, Feb. 5, viewers learned if the Traitors were able to temporarily put aside their differences and continue working together.

So, did they evade suspicion after committing the next murder? Or, did the Faithfuls successfully banish another Traitor? Read on for a recap of Episode 8, below.

Candiace and Rob Go Head-to-Head in the Turret

The episode opens with Rausch attempting to explain to Dillard Bassett why he turned on Rinna.

“As a person, I feel bad. But as a player, Lisa had to go,” he says.

Dillard Bassett shares in her confessional that Rausch is a threat to her, but she has to appear unbothered or else he will stab her in the back. So, she attempts to move past Rinna’s banishment and also tells Rausch that her burn vote against him was meaningless.

Host Alan Cumming then enters the turret and informs the Traitors that they can either commit a murder or recruit a Faithful to their team. Rausch and Dillard Bassett agree that they want to remain a duo before discussing who is on the chopping block. But Dillard Bassett is secretly plotting her next move.

“I need to make Rob feel like he is still a part of a team…a careful assassin serves her revenge cold,” she says in her confessional.

A Calculated Murder

At breakfast, the players who arrive first chat about Rinna’s banishment. Maura Higgins, from the UK version of “Love Island,” notes that it was odd Dillard Bassett chose to vote for Rausch despite an overwhelming majority choosing to banish Rinna. After all the remaining players enter the breakfast room, viewers learn that Dillard Bassett and Rausch chose to murder “The Bachelor” star Colton Underwood.

We flash back to the turret where Dillard Bassett is the one to suggest murdering Underwood. In his final confessional, the former “Bachelor” lead says, “Well that’s a bummer. Damn. I think it has become pretty obvious that Candiace is up there. Trying to be consistent and then do a throw away vote is sloppy gameplay.”

He ironically adds, “I have faith that the Faithfuls know who it is and I hope that my boy Rob wins.”

Dillard Bassett explains to viewers that she wanted to murder Underwood to weaken Rausch. However, the “Love Island USA” star is a step ahead of her. He paraphrases a Mark Twain quote and says, “It ain’t the things you don’t know that hurt you. It’s the things you think you know for sure,” before pointing out that Underwood had mentioned he was suspicious of Dillard Bassett before he was murdered. He withheld this information from Dillard Bassett.

A Picture-Perfect Mission

For the mission, the players have to split themselves into two teams. The team with eight players will be tasked with re-creating portraits based on descriptions written on plaques in the castle. A photo of their re-creation will be sent to an old gallery where the three remaining players will have to sort through a room of paintings and figure out which one matches the picture.

“Dancing With the Stars” pro Mark Ballas, “Top Chef” host Kristen Kish and Rausch are the three who go to the old gallery, which means they also have an opportunity to earn a shield. The group adds $12,000 to the prize pot and Kish finds the shield.

Candiace Calls Out Rob

Back at the castle, Dillard Bassett and “One Tree Hill” star Stephen Colletti’s names are being thrown out. Colletti tells Dillard Bassett about Underwood thinking she was a Traitor before he was murdered, which tips her off that Rausch set her up.

Rausch interrupts Dillard Bassett and Colletti’s conversation and asks to speak to her privately. When she asks him if he has been mentioning her name around the castle, he lies. She then tells him she thinks they have “different values.”

“I feel like you’re taking this very personally,” he replies before reminding her they are playing a game.

Dillard Bassett retorts, “It is a game — and you are a snake.” She warns him that if she gets banished then she will sabotage him on her way out.

Traitors Battle at the Round Table

Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir opens up the discussion at the Round Table by listing the reasons why he suspects Colletti is a Traitor. “The Real Housewives of New York City” alum Dorinda Medley chimes in to add some evidence she believes also points to Colletti being a Traitor. Then, singer Eric Nam mentions Dillard Bassett’s vote the previous week. She reacts by calling it a throwaway vote, but then says she now wonders if Rausch is a Traitor. She recalls him being nervous at breakfast. She also says Rausch was using Underwood to get Rinna out of the game.

After a brief, calm back-and-forth between Dillard Bassett and Rausch, it is time to vote. All the players, except Dillard Bassett and “Survivor” winner Natalie Anderson (who votes for Olympic figure skater Tara Lipinski), vote to banish “The Real Housewives of Potomac” alum.

While standing on the Circle of Truth, Dillard Bassett holds back tears as she says, “I don’t want to cry. I love you all so much. This experience has been life changing. I’ve never been in a situation where I’ve connected with so many people so quickly. I feel like I’ve played this game with valor, with love, with respect… And with treachery because I am a Traitor!”

During her final confessional, Dillard Bassett is in good spirits.

“I am proud of how I played this game. It was really challenging to have to lie. I really started to love everybody. And that’s what just I think stings the most,” she says. “But I’m confident that they’re going to look at Rob. And in the event that they don’t, joke is on them. So good luck to you all.”

A New Traitor Is Recruited

As the last Traitor in the game, Rausch realizes that the other players might start to suspect him and use Dillard Bassett’s previous vote as evidence. He enters the turret alone and Cumming tells him that “per the rules” he must give one Faithful an ultimatum: join him as a Traitor or die.

Rausch goes through the pros and cons of a few players before choosing Nam to be the next Traitor. When Nam receives his recruitment letter, he isn’t pleased.

“I’m almost there. I just want to be left alone,” he says about making it to the end of the game as a Faithful.

Nam leaves the castle and walks to the front steps where he is stunned to see Rausch reveal himself as a Traitor.

In Episode 9, out Feb. 12, viewers will learn if Nam accepts the offer, and if he and Rausch can survive until the end of the game.
