Who Won ‘Survivor’? Season 50 Winner Revealed

Warning: Major spoilers ahead for the “Survivor 50” finale…

“Survivor”’s historic Season 50, which brought together fan-favorites who have captivated audiences across the show’s 26-year run, has come to an end, with one player walking away a whopping $2 million richer.

“Survivor 50” began with 24 former castaways arriving on the beaches of Fiji and sizing up their competition. From legends like five-time players Cirie Fields and Ozzy Lusth to other highly- anticipated returnees like Christian Hubicki, Mike White and Season 45 winner Dee Valladares, the cast was stacked with strategic masterminds and competition beasts. Throughout the season, the players had to navigate new twists that saw multiple contestants getting their torches snuffed in some episodes. They also had to adapt to celebrities like Jimmy Fallon and Billie Eilish impacting the game.

After managing to outwit, outlast and outplay some of the best “Survivor” players of all time, only five castaways remained when the epic three-hour finale kicked off on Wednesday, May 20: Aubry Bracco, Jonathan Young, Tiffany Ervin, Joe Hunter and Rizo Velovic.

The stakes couldn’t be higher thanks to an appearance from MrBeast and a risky move by castaway Rick Devens in Episode 10 that raised the prize winnings to $2 million.

This year, the beloved live after show returned. But in a change to the format, host Jeff Probst checked in with eliminated contestants in segments throughout the night, resulting in one awkward mistake that had the cast and fans at home in disbelief.

In between the conversations, viewers learned which three contestants made it to the Final Tribal Council after surviving the last two Immunity Challenges and the Fire-Making Challenge. So, who claimed the title of “sole ‘Survivor” at the end of the milestone season?

Read a recap of the “Survivor 50” finale, including a breakdown of the after show where singer Sia awarded one player $100,000 for being the biggest fan-favorite, below.

1st Immunity Challenge

The finale, titled “Reverse the Curse,” begins with the final five returning to camp. Rizo celebrates his “blindside” of Cirie and points out in his confessional that he is guaranteed to make it to the final four thanks to his Hidden Immunity Idol.

Tiffany calls out Aubry’s “fake sympathy” after keeping her out of the vote and planning to get rid of her in the previous episode. As Tiffany voices her frustrations to the cameras, the other players criticize her and plot their next move.

At the first Immunity Challenge of the night, Tiffany, Joe and Jonathan are all neck and neck while placing the last pieces in their puzzles. But Jonathan pulls out the victory and Probst places the Immunity Necklace around his neck for the second time this season, securing his place in the final four.

1st Tribal Council

Back at camp, Rizo tells Tiffany that he is voting her out and there is nothing she can do to change his mind. So, Tiffany turns her focus elsewhere and tries to convince Joe and Jonathan that Aubry is a bigger threat due to her “underdog story.”

At Tribal Council, Tiffany points out how frustrating it was to sit at camp and listen to other players say she was a competition threat even though she has won the same amount of challenges as Joe. Despite her convincing argument, the remaining players are not receptive.

Rizo plays his Hidden Immunity Idol and Tiffany is voted out. She becomes the 20th person voted out and the 10th member of the jury. “I was seen as one of the biggest threats on the beach. It just lets me know that, I guess, I’m a ‘Survivor’ giant, too,” she says in her final confessional.

2nd Immunity Challenge

Before heading to the second Immunity Challenge in the episode, Rizo reads a scroll to the group that doesn’t reveal how the rest of the season will end, whether in the divisive Fire-Making Challenge or a vote to determine the finalists.

The final four arrive at their last Immunity Challenge of the season and learn they will compete in “one of the most iconic challenges” in the show’s history: “Simmotion.”

Jonathan is the first out and is shortly followed by Rizo, leaving Aubry and Joe. Aubry outlasts Joe and wins her first Immunity Challenge of the season, making her the first finalist.

“It doesn’t feel real,” she tells Probst before he places the necklace around her neck.

Probst then announces that fans voted prior to the season to have a Fire-Making Challenge instead of a vote, so Aubry will determine who is going to the end with her and which two players have to make fire.

Fire-Making Challenge

Aubry chats with Joe and swiftly decides that she will take him to the end. Rizo and Jonathan, who both lost their Fire-Making Challenges on their prior seasons, prepare to go head-to-head and redeem themselves.

Aubry announces her decision to Probst and the jury at Tribal Council. Rizo and Jonathan get ready to take their spots but then the show oddly cuts back to the live portion. Probst welcomes Rizo to the stage and asks him if he has any regrets on his game. Rizo says “no,” and then Probst, mistakenly, invites him to take a spot next to the other jurors as “the final member of our jury.”

Rizo and the rest of the cast look stunned and the audience is silent, realizing Probst accidentally revealed the Fire-Making Challenge result. “What just happened?” Probst asks before the show cuts to a commercial.

Back from commercial, Probst jokes that his error is the last “twist” of the season and now we will see Rizo lose to Jonathan.

With all the anticipation gone, viewers see Jonathan build a strong fire and win the challenge. Rizzo then, officially, becomes the 21th person voted out and the 11th and final member of the jury.

Rizo recalls watching “Survivor” as an 8-year-old child and says that unfortunately his story will be “falling short both times” he played. He becomes emotional as he says he represented his Albanian community, inspired people, made his family proud and played the best game he could.

Final Tribal Council

Before Final Tribal Council, the finalists are surprised with visits from their loved ones: Joe’s wife, Jonathan’s brother and Aubry’s mom. The three enjoy breakfast with their families and predict how the end game will unfold.

Finally, the grilling from the jury begins. Here is what some jury members asked:

  • Benjamin “Coach” Wade: What is a core value from home that you carried with you into the game?
  • Rick: Were there any secrets you had in this game that you kept? If not, what was the strategy behind not keeping any secrets?
  • Stephenie LaGrossa Kendrick: Does not ask a question but praises Jonathan for using old school and new school strategies. She calls him “the total package.”
  • Ozzy: How did you adapt during the game?
  • Emily Flippen: What is one critique of the game you played for Season 50?
  • Christian: What is your story this season that should make you a winner?

And the Winner Is…

Probst thanks the castaways for a great season and reveals that fans want the winner to be announced live in Los Angeles at the after show.

Continuing tradition, the host carries the urn with the votes onto the stage and joins the contestants live in front of the studio audience.

“It is time to bring this season to a close,” he says as the crowd cheers.

Probst reads the votes and declares Aubry the winner of Season 50 by a vote of eight to three.

Reflecting on her victory, Aubry says, “I came back and I was more intuitive. I trusted myself and I moved differently. And most importantly, I learned from all the players before me.”

As the runner-up, Jonathan says he is proud of his game and that advice from Rob “Boston Rob” Mariano helped him strategize before playing.

Joe says he was a fan of the twists this season because it “put everyone on their heels.”

Probst then reveals that in addition to the $2 million, Aubry is also being gifted a Toyota Land Cruiser.

Sia’s Fan-Favorite $100,000 Prize Winner

To end the episode, Probst mentions Sia being a “super fan” and says the singer asked viewers to vote for a player to win her $100,000 fan-favorite prize. He says Cirie was the clear winner and will receive the Sia prize.

Highlights from the Live After Show

Cirie is given the “Spirit of Survivor Award” early in the night “for inspiring others to discover the fire that burns within.”

Mike White later appears virtually from France as he is busy filming Season 4 of “The White Lotus.” During his chat with Probst, Mike reveals that Season 50 contestants Charlie Davis and Kamilla Karthigesu are going to make cameos in the next season of his HBO hit.

In addition to Probst’s blunder with Rizo, he also catches up with Christian, Rick Devens, Ozzy, Stephenie and Tiffany.

Then, fans are briefly introduced to players they can expect to see on Season 51, which ushers in the “Open Era.” Probst teases “dangerous new elements never seen before” coming next season.

He says viewers can look forward to “permanent uncertainty” in the next wave of the show, coming this fall.
