‘Big Brother’ Star Mickey Lee Dies After Cardiac Arrests From Flu Complications

Mickey Lee, a contestant on “Big Brother” Season 27, has died. She was 35.
Lee’s family announced the news in a statement they shared on her verified Instagram account Dec. 26.
“With profound sadness, the family of Mickey Lee announces her transition on Christmas in the early evening. Mickey captured the hearts of audiences nationwide through her appearance on ‘Big Brother,’ where her authenticity, strength and spirit left a lasting impression on fans and fellow cast members alike,” the statement read.
“She will be remembered for the joy she brought into the lives of so many and for the genuine connections she formed both on and off screen,” it continued. “The family extends their deepest gratitude to everyone who has offered prayers, love, and support during this incredibly difficult time. Your kindness has been felt and is sincerely appreciated.”
At the end of the statement, Lee’s family asked social media users for “privacy during this critical time of bereavement.” They added that they will share details about Lee’s memorial services and arrangements at a later date.
News of Lee’s death comes just days after her family shared that Lee had experienced a “series of cardiac arrests” following complications from the flu. In the Dec. 22 statement, Lee’s family said she was hospitalized in the ICU “in critical but stable condition.” The family also set up a GoFundMe to cover her medical expenses.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Harvard Health Publishing, studies have found there is an increased risk of heart disease after a bout of the flu.
“A growing body of research suggests that influenza virus infection itself could put people at increased risk for acute cardiovascular events, like heart attack and stroke,” a page on the CDC website states.
Lee, an event curator who was based in Atlanta, competed on Season 27 of “Big Brother,” which aired from July to September 2025. She was the eighth housemate to be evicted from the show.
Fellow contestant Rachel Reilly mourned Lee in the comments section, writing, “Sorry for your loss and my prayers for your family RIP MICKEY you are missed — love to all of you.”
