Borussia Dortmund defender Almugera Kabar’s Hamburg move collapses over fitness issues

Florian Plettenberg reports that Borussia Dortmund defender Almugera Kabar’s loan out to Hamburg has collapsed at the last moment. A deal in the works since the very beginning of the January 2026 window suddenly and unexpectedly fell apart yesterday after the 19-year-old’s medical at the Volksparkstadion yesterday.

Why did Kabar’s move fail?

Plettenberg – while emphasizing that the left back absolutely did not fail his medical – notes that the two clubs had “differing opinions” on the player’s fitness. Oe surmises that Hamburg weren’t pleased with the shape Kabar arrived in. Kabar hasn’t played for the BVB first team this season. He made his last appearance with the BVB reserves in the fourth tier back in December.

Will Almugera Kabar still depart Dortmund during this window?

Given the amount of interest in him during the summer window, one would think other clubs remain interested. It nevertheless appears highly unlikely that any club will go through all of the trouble of setting up a last-minute medical after the issues with Kabar’s fitness have been leaked. The 2023 FIFA U17 World Cup winner is probably staying put.
