Helena Bonham Carter Departs ‘The White Lotus’ Season Four

Actress and role “did not align once on set,” HBO announced, adding the role “has subsequently been rethought, is being rewritten and will be recast”
Just days into the filming, Helena Bonham Carter has exited the fourth season of The White Lotus, HBO announced Friday.
“With filming just underway on season four of ‘The White Lotus,’ it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set,” HBO said in a statement (via Variety).
“The role has subsequently been rethought, is being rewritten and will be recast in the coming weeks. HBO, the producers and Mike White are saddened that they won’t get to work with her, but remain ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon.”
The Oscar-nominated Bonham Carter was among the second wave of cast additions for The White Lotus Season Four, which will take place in France, including a reported storyline integrating the upcoming Cannes Film Festival in May. “The fourth season will follow a new group of White Lotus hotel guests and employees over the span of a week, taking place during the Cannes Film Festival,” HBO announced earlier this month.
HBO did not reveal what part Bonham Carter was slated to play. The actress has not commented on her departure. The fourth season also stars Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Chris Messina, AJ Michalka, Kumail Nanjiani, Chloe Bennet, Sandra Bernhard, Heather Graham, Max Greenfield, Rosie Perez, and many more.
