Joe Fryer Shaves His Beard for the 1st Time in 9 Years. See His Reaction!
Saturday TODAY’s Joe Fryer is sporting a fresh-faced new look, just in time for summer.
After rocking his signature mustache and beard for nine years straight, Fryer decided it was time for a change, and he took viewers behind the scenes of his transformation
In a video posted to TODAY’s Instagram account, Fryer and his colleague, meteorologist Angie Lassman, stopped by Barberino’s at Rockefeller Center to visit with some grooming pros.
“I can just tell you I’m not getting a haircut,” Fryer said at the beginning of the video.
“Oh, what might you be doing?” Lassman asked.
“Well, I’m actually going to be cutting off my beard entirely for the first time in nine years,” Fryer replied while rubbing his beard.
Lassman was excited to witness all the action firsthand and said she was ready to see “Joe Fryer 2.0.”
The scene then shifted to Fryer lying down in one of the groomer’s chairs with a towel over his eyes.
“Now I see why you wanted to come here,” Lassman joked.
“See, this is really rough. This is tough,” Fryer replied.
After the Barberino’s team shaved off Fryer’s beard, he got a glimpse of what he looked like with just a mustache.
“Oh yea, Joe,” Lassman teased.
“Is this what we’re doing?” he asked.
When it came time for the big reveal, Fryer was taken aback by his bare skin and said, “Oh my goodness!”
“Are you a new man?” Lassman asked.
“That is what my chin looks like. There’s my upper lip. Wow!” Fryer said.
TODAY’s Instagram followers weighed in on his new look in the comments section.
“Not me watching this morning wondering who the new guy is! 😂,” one wrote.
“Amazing transformation! You look great!” one commented.
One Instagram user said Fryer looked “so handsome either way.”
Another complimented him but shared their own preference, writing, “Wow!! Looks great both ways. Just in case you’re taking a poll on which way is better…I vote for the beard.”
Many TODAY fans remarked that Fryer looks “younger” with his fresh-faced look.
“You look great and at least 10 years younger,” one wrote.
Whether they preferred the beard or the clean-shaven look, many Instagram users were entertained by the video.
