Niall Horan Almost Forgot One Direction Lyrics
The singer admitted his mid-show realization during his recent appearance on The Tonight Show
Niall Horan stood in front of 80,000 fans at London’s Wembley Stadium about to dive into a solo rendition of “Steal Your Girl” when he suddenly realized that he may not be as familiar with One Direction‘s lyrics as he thought. On the studio version of the 2014 track, the musician only delivers a couple of lines, a fact which gave him a mental pause last weekend as he was about to perform the song during his headlining set for Capital FM Summertime Ball.
Horan admitted his near lapse in memory during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. At the start of their talk, the host asked,”You played One Direction’s songs before, but what’s it like to do the whole song by yourself?”
“That’s so funny you say that because I was thinking, as I was singing it, literally as I was singing the first verse, I was like, ‘I’ve never sung this verse before,’” Horan admitted to the host. “I would have only ever sung my part, so I don’t think I’ve ever sung those verses before,” he said. “And here I was in front of 80,000 people going, ‘Oh crap, I better not forget the words here.’”
Turns out Horan’s 1D memories are intact and he managed to remember all of the words to the verses, which were originally sung by Zayn Malik and the late Liam Payne. But the musician also knew that the devoted Directioners would have his back if he ever did forget the lyrics. “Well, to be honest, even if I did, they probably would have sung it,” he said.
