‘Takes a Toll on Your Body’

“I’m not 15 anymore,” she said
Demi Lovato isn’t sure she’ll “ever tour again.” In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter for her upcoming documentary Child Star, Lovato alluded to the fact that she may take an indefinite break from hitting the road to perform.
“It takes a toll on your body,” Lovato told the outlet. “I’m not 15 anymore.” (The reporter noted that Lovato mentioned having back issues.)
The singer last hit the road in 2022 for a 34-show run in support of her Holy Fvck rock album. She even brought out Ashlee Simpson for a stop in L.A. It marked her first time on the road since 2018, when she performed 44 shows for her Tell Me You Love Me album. She toured seemingly nonstop between 2009 and 2016.
“Sometimes I think it’s time for me to move on, but I’m in this weird position in my career because I still rely on music for my income,” she added.
Although Lovato did not elaborate more on her choice to step away from touring, she spoke at length about the trauma she suffered as a Disney Channel star in the public eye.
“I think part of me always thought that if I made it in the industry that I would get the love from my birth dad that I didn’t have,” Lovato told the outlet. “And he was troubled, and I think I always chased success because I knew it would put me in his line of sight again and it would make him proud of me.”
“But now that I’ve dealt with those daddy issues, I don’t need the industry as much as I once did, and I’m proud of myself for getting here,” she added.
Lovato is set to release Child Star, a documentary featuring interviews with Drew Barrymore, Christina Ricci, and Jojo Siwa about the effects of child stardom on famous actors who started their career quite young.
