The Veterans Boards Reed Van Dyk’s Atonement Ahead of Cannes Premiere

Ahead of its world premiere in Cannes, Oscar-nominated director Reed Van Dyk‘s feature debut “Atonement” has been boarded by The Veterans for international sales. CAA Media Finance and WME Independent are co-handling the U.S. rights.
The film — which bows in Director’s Fortnight as the lone U.S. feature in the competition — stars Oscar-winner Kenneth Branagh (“Dunkirk,” “The Devil Wears Prada 2”), Boyd Holbrook (“A Complete Unknown,” “Logan”), Hiam Abbass (“Succession,” “Ramy”) and newcomer Gheed.
Written and directed by Van Dyk and inspired by Dexter Filkins’ 2012 New Yorker article, “Atonement” takes place in the early days of the Iraq War, when a U.S. Marine’s split-second decision during a firefight devastates an Iraqi family. Years later, aided by a journalist, he seeks to reconcile with the woman and her family who survived.
Van Dyk previously helmed the Oscar-nominated short film “DeKalb Elementary.”
Tim and Trevor White are producing on behalf of Star Thrower Entertainment. Van Dyk is also producing alongside Redline Entertainment’s David Wulf and Steven Demmler of Talon Entertainment. Wayne L Rogers serves as an executive producer.
Other films on The Veterans’ current slate include James Gray’s “Paper Tiger” starring Adam Driver, Scarlett Johansson and Miles Teller, and “Diamond” directed by and starring Andy Garcia, both of which are premiering in Cannes. Other titles include “Mutiny” by Jean-François Richet, starring Jason Statham; and Takashi Miike’s next film starring Charli xcx and Milly Alcock, currently in production.
